15. What are the keys to success on the Rankings?
1. How do the Rankings work?

It's real simple - you move up for playing games and winning. You move down for not playing games and losing. You're placed at the bottom when you sign-up. You choose who and when you want to challenge. Our system will automatically calculate your ranking as you enter your results. It's that easy - the more you play and win, the higher your rank.

2. How do I determine my skill level and division?

Whether you're a beginner or a pro, we're committed to ensuring matched you're evenly in your division. The league is composed of the following divisions:

Beginner Handicap Open (20.0 & higher)
  Intermediate: Handicap 10 - 19.9
  Advanced: Handicap 3.8 - 9.9
  Pro: Handicap Scratch - 3.7

Intermediate, Advanced and Pro players allocate strokes based on handicap (beginners simply compete straight up without allocating strokes). Click here for more details on handicap scoring.

Don't worry if you don't know your handicap as you don't need it to join. We're in the process of developing a free handicap service. In the meantime, you can use Yahoo.

3. How much does it cost to play?

It is 100% FREE to play as we do NOT charge any fees to our members.

4. When can I join?

You may join at any time as we are running continuously throughout the year. You may also pause your membership for 45 days throughout the year without the fear of dropping in the rankings.

5. How do I move up the rankings?

It's real simple - you move up for playing matches and winning. You move down for not playing matches and losing. You're placed at the bottom of the Rankings when you join and you may challenge anyone from Day 1. You move up a maximum of 3 spots if you win your challenge. If you are challenged and lose, you move down one spot. No ranking change occurs if a challenge is unsuccessful. You can also move up and down the ladder simply by the number of matches you play (see Four Week Rule below).

6. How do I challenge an opponent?

Challenging opponents is easy! Just challenge anyone in the rankings to a match using our friendly system. If your opponent accepts your challenge, you will pick the time and location of your match at any of the local courses in your area. After your match, you will enter the result in your profile and our system will automatically adjust your standings.

7. What do I do when I am challenged?

When you are challenged you will receive an email from your opponent through our system. You will then respond to the email with your preferred time and location of play AND login to your Home Court to accept or reject the challenge. Failure to accept or reject the challenge in the system will result in an automatic drop in the rankings.

8. What is the 4-Week Rule?

You can move up the rankings quickly by simply playing games regardless of whether you win or lose. At the end of every four-weeks, players that have played a match are moved up the Rankings until they bump into another player that has played a game. Then the player that was bumped into is moved up the Rankings until that player bumps into another player that has played a game. The same movement happens down the Rankings for not playing games. Our system does all the calculations for you.

9. What is Holiday Status and can I pause my membership?

You may turn your Holiday Status on for a total of 45 days per year. When your holiday status is on, opponents cannot contact you for matches and you will not lose your spot in the Rankings.

10. How often and where do we play?

You may play as often as you like, and you and your opponents choose the location of your matches. Challenger attempts to play at the higher-ranking player's chosen golf course but both players must ultimately agree on a location.

11. Do I need a handicap index?

If you're a beginner you do not need a handicap index. For Intermediate, Advanced and Pro divisions, we allocate strokes based on handicap. If you don't have an official handicap index, we recommend you use Yahoo's free handicap tracking service to estimate your handicap until we finish development of a free handicap service for our members.

12. How do we allocate strokes for the Intermediate, Advanced and Pro Divisions?

You allocate strokes based on handicaps ONLY for the Intermediate and Advanced divisions. Therefore, beginners play straight up and do not need to worry about allocating strokes.

Say Jack and Sally are going head-to-head in match play. Jack has a course handicap of 15 and Sally has a course handicap of 11.

  The Wrong Way
Contrary to the practice of many golfers, Jack does NOT receive strokes on the 15 highest-ranked handicap holes while Sally receives strokes on 11.

  The Correct Way
The correct way to allocate storkes in one-on-one match play is to subtract the lower handicap from the higher, then assign the difference to the weaker player. In our our example, Sally's 11 is subtracted from Jack's 14, leaving 4. Jack now receives strokes on the top 4 handicap holes, while Sally plays from scratch.

If you don't have an official handicap index, we recommend you use Yahoo's free handicap tracking service to estimate your handicap until we finish development of a free handicap service for our members.

13. How do create a profile?

Your profile is created when you register for the league. You may edit your profile and add a picture at any time by hitting the "edit profile" link on the menu bar.

14. What happens when I select the wrong winner for a match?

If you accidentally select the wrong winner for a match, please click the "Reset Winner" button and a confirmation email will be sent to your opponent. When your opponent also clicks the "Reset Winner" button, the match will be reset so you can then select the correct winner.
